EMA Motorsport driver Yasser Shahin will contest the FIA World Endurance Championship’s new-for-2024 LMGT3 class for Porsche.
Once again EMA will partner with renowned operation Manthey Racing for its international campaigns after doing so in DTM in recent seasons, as Shahin furthers his credentials overseas.
A two-time winner of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS title winner in 2021 and 2022 with Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia, Shahin made the switch to EMA Motorsport’s solitary Porsche 911 GT3 R for 2023 to finish third in the standings, taking five wins.
Vastly experienced in GT racing since making his debut locally in 2016 and adding prototype racing to his resume through multiple entries in the Asian Le Mans Series has Shahin prepared for the challenge of contesting the highly competitive FIA World Endurance Championship.
Shahin will be joined by another FIA World Endurance Championship debutant in the form of Porsche rising star Morris Schrung as the experienced Richard Lietz completes the line-up for one of the two Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 Rs.
“I’m looking forward to contesting a WEC season,” Shahin said.
“I’ve always enjoyed the endurance format and believe it offers the greatest challenge and opportunity for a driver. To compete in it with Manthey and Porsche is truly a privilege and a race driver’s dream.
“I’ve found an excellent fit with Manthey and the way they run a race team. Representing the Bend Motorsport Park and EMA Motorsport on the world stage will be fantastic.
“It won’t be easy though – the sheer volume of driving and stints in the WEC will be physically demanding. New tracks and a new tyre add to the difficulty and challenge.
“But our WEC driver lineup is fantastic. We have a fabulous mix of speed and consistency. Richard is such an experienced endurance driver and Morris is coming off an outstanding season in the Carrera Cup.
“So I feel that our WEC driver lineup is extremely strong, we have excellent driver chemistry and everyone is looking forward to the start of the season.”
Shahin’s maiden FIA World Endurance Championship campaign will begin with the Prologue on February 24-25 and the Qatar 1812km on March 2 both held at the Lusail Circuit.
