Ford Performance targeting Australian market for Ford Mustang GT3

Ford Performance’s Global Motorsports Head Mark Rushbrook has earmarked Australia as a key market for the recently debuted Mustang GT3.

The highly anticipated GT3 model was represented by three entries composed of two from factory squad Multimatic and another for Ford’s FIA World Endurance Championship representative Proton Competition.

Although the American and European markets will take precedence early in its production, Rushbrook told Sportscar365.com interest is ‘very high’ as he particularly referenced the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour and Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS as key target areas.

“We’re limited on the number of cars that are built in time to support a full 2024 season,” said Rushbrook.

“But we are ramped up to build two a month. We will keep building to demand and I think we’re going to be busy for quite some time to meet that demand.”

“We want these cars racing all around the world. Yes, definitely Bathurst, but there’s [also] a full series in Australia. We want cars participating in that series.

“That’s what we love about Mustang, the fact that we’ve got it at such a great road car as the best-selling sports car in the world.

“Since we sell it all over the world, we want to also race all over the world.”

Multimatic Motorsport will produce the Mustang GT3 and has stated production has begun on chassis designated for European or FIA World Endurance Championship campaigns as inquiries according to industry sources are up to 45-50.

The new Mustang is the latest entry into GT3 alongside its American rival Chevrolet Corvette and an updated Aston Martin Vantage, with both also debuting at Daytona.

Of course, the opening round of Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS will welcome the local debut of the Ferrari 296 GT courtesy of Arise Racing GT to be broadcast on 7mate and streamed on 7plus.
