Tigani Motorsport aiming to repair damaged Koundouris Mercedes-AMG

Tigani Motorsport is in a race against time to get the Supabarn Supermarkets Mercedes-AMG GT3 ready for qualifying and racing action tomorrow after a crash at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit today.

James Koundouris, who shares driving duties with his brother Theo, dropped a wheel at the exit of Siberia (Turn 6) that sent his Mercedes-AMG into a spin and the tyre wall.

The car has sustained significant damage to the right hand side of the car.

James said that a small mistake led to huge consequences.

"The tyres weren't quite on. The car felt good, but I pushed too soon. I touched the grass and spun around," said Koundouris.

"I used just a little bit too much road and that's the result.

"I didn't hit the wall very hard. It is what it is, but the most disappointing thing is that Theo has missed out on practice and for the first time this year, the car felt really good. We felt like we had a really fast car. We've come a long way with the set-up.

"In the first practice session, we were on old tyres and our times were really good. So it's disappointing that I've let the team down.

"But, tomorrow is another day."

The incident happened in the second unofficial test session of the day. The first official session will be held at 3:10pm local time today.
