RAM Motorsport duo Michael Sheargold and Garth Walden are aiming to continue their recent form at this weekend’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS round at Queensland Raceway.
A strong weekend that included a race win at the previous event at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia vaulted the pairing to the top of the AM-Class point standings.
However, the short, sharp layout of the Ipswich venue will present a unique challenge for GT-style racing, something that the RAM Motorsport crew will be looking to get on top of quickly.
“I’m really looking forward to racing at Queensland Raceway this weekend,” said Sheargold.
“We scored a round podium when we raced there last year, so if we can continue that form, we’ll be in a good position to build upon our championship lead.”
“I really like racing at QR. It’s a great venue. Especially for spectators who can see everything from everywhere. They can keep an eye on all the action.”
“That said, to race on, it’s a tight technical circuit. You need to concentrate for the entire lap. There is no chance of a taking break.”
“We can lean on the aero of the Mercedes AMG through Turns 1 and 2, but short straights and heavy braking, particularly Turns 3 and 6, can be a bit of a challenge in GT3 cars.”
RAM Motorsport would also like to officially welcome their new partner, Kase Building & Restoration Group.
After joining the team’s Porsche Carrera Cup cars at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this month, the company’s branding will also appear on the team’s Mercedes AMG GT3 at Queensland Raceway.
“I want to thank Kase Building & Restoration Group for joining our sponsor group in both our Carrera Cup and GT World Challenge programs,” said Sheargold.
Two one hour races will make up the round, with fans able to tune into Saturday and Sunday’s action live and free via the Seven Network broadcast.
International viewers can watch live and free on the GT World YouTube page.
Round 3 of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS takes place at Queensland Raceway as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on August 2-4.
