The Justin McMillan/Glen Wood Mercedes AMG GT3 set the fastest time of the day in Practice Two for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS at Phillip Island.
Wood set a 1m 28.4631s late in the session to knock off Austrian Audi ace Maximilian Hofer by almost half a second, backing up the impressive speed shown by Wood in this morning’s opening session.
The Jamec Racing Audi R8 LMS Evo 2 of Hofer and Geoff Emery is very much still a key contender across the weekend’s two races and was second in the session.
The EMA Motorsport/The Bend Motorsport Park Porsche 911 GT3R of Yasser Shahin and Garnett Patterson was third for the session.
The Liam Talbot/Fraser Ross Audi R8 LMS Evo 2 continues to feature at the pointy end of the field, with Shannons entry finishing a solid fourth.
Rounding out the top five was the Myland Audi R8 LMS Evo 2 shared by Dylan O’Keeffe and Kiwi Andrew Fawcet.
The session was interrupted by a single red flag when the Mercedes AMG GT3 of Mike Sheargold found trouble with twenty minutes to go.
However, the car he’ll share with Garth Walden returned to the track with ten minutes left, finishing thirteenth in the session.
GT3 Am was led by the Marcel Zalloua/Sergio Pires Audi R8 LMS Evo 2, which finished in eighth outright on a 1m 31.0611s.
Invitational was once again headed by Darren Currie’s MARC II Mustang, with a 1m 32.6765s good enough for fifteenth outright.
And Trophy was led by Renee Gracie’s Audi R8 LMS Ultra in nineteenth outright on a 1m 35.1843s.
Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS is next on track for two qualifying sessions tomorrow morning at 9:45 am and 10:15 am, before the opening race of Round 3 later in the afternoon.
That race will be broadcast live, ad-break free and on-demand on Stan Sport tomorrow.
