The first practice session for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS’s sixth event for the year has been completed with Will Brown and Brad Schumacher topping the overall time sheets.
Finishing practice one with an impressive lap time of 1:25.9856, the Shaw & Partners / Kelso Electric Auto R8 LMS punched out a session-high 33 laps - edging out Tigani Motorsport’s Paul Lucchitti by seventh tenths.
Rounding out the session’s top three for the class With Chaz Mostert and Liam Talbot, with the Arise Racing GT stars just over one and a half tenths slower than the Realta Mercedes AMG GT3 of Lucchitti.
Posting the fastest lap in the AM class was Ram Motorsport’s Garth Walden and Michael Sheargold after the pair went eighth fastest overall. Just three tenths of a second separated the GWR Australia-prepared Mercedes AMG GT3 with the next best AM entry of Sergio Pires and Michael Zalloua.
Highlighting the closeness of competition within the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS field - there were plenty of close battles in Practice.
Towards the top of the overall time sheets, just two tenths separated the fourth placed Mercedes AMG GT3 of Declan Fraser and Peter Hackett, the second Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 of Jaxon Evans and Elliot Schutte and Grove Racing’s Brenton and Stephen Grove, while a pair of Pro Am entries, in the returning Alex Peroni and Mark Rosser and Kiwi stars Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles split the two fastest AM drivers.
Just one more practice session remains in the day, which will take place at 4:55pm.
