Qualifying is a little different in Sydney where the Superpole format utilised across the Fanatec GT World Challenge universe will be used in Australia’s series for the first time.
Traditionally, Q1 and Q2 set the grids for the respective races. But with only one endurance contest scheduled, it's each crew's aggregate time based on their fastest lap from both 10-minute sessions that sets positions 11th and lower.
The 10 quickest cars, meanwhile, progress to the subsequent 30-minute Superpole in which one driver per crew determines their entry’s grid slot. Based on the aggregate Q1/Q2 order, and with slowest going first, drivers set off at regular intervals to complete as many as two flying laps.
At the end of a frantic session, the fastest will be awarded pole for Saturday evening’s three-hour endurance race under the spectacular lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Superpole concept is most famously used at the hallmark Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa where the top 20 entries battle it out to be the fastest.
Don't miss the battle for Superpole supremacy in Sydney at 1:30pm AEDT.
