RAM Motorsport pairing Michael Sheargold and Garth Walden are looking to build upon their solid start to the GT World Challenge Australia season so far at the next round at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend.
A productive test at the South Australian venue in the lead-up to the 2024 season has the duo full of confidence heading into the second round. Although this weekend's racing is scheduled to take place on the shorter West Circuit layout, practice will be crucial in adjusting to the tighter version of the track.
“We tested at The Bend earlier in the year, and that went really well,” said Sheargold in the lead-up to the weekend.
“We’re going to be racing on the West Circuit, so we are going to miss some of the corners.”
“We’ll need to tune the Mercedes AMG to the tighter layout during Friday’s practice sessions to make sure we’re dialled in for the rest of the weekend.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting out on track to experience something different on the shorter version of the circuit.”
This weekend marks a racing return to The Bend for the RAM Motorsport crew after their last race at the venue was cancelled due to excessive rain.
Sheargold and Walden finished second in class on Saturday’s first race of the weekend, while the bulk of Sunday’s running was cancelled due to the weather.
With a better forecast leading this weekend's racing, the pair will be looking to finish on the podium in both hour-long GT World Challenge Australia races as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries round just outside of Tailem Bend.
On-track action commences this weekend with two hour-long practice sessions on Friday (May 31) ahead of qualifying on Saturday morning. The weekend's two races will be broadcast live and free on 7plus.
