Fans of GT racing and the Adelaide 500 will be in for a treat, with the famous events’ return set to include the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS.
The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS is the home of top-class GT sports car racing.
Including desirable sports cars from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and more, the class pits some of the world’s best cars with pro and amateur drivers in Australia.
The event will be added to the category’s championship for 2022 and will be the final ‘sprint’ round for the year which continues this weekend for its second round at Queensland Raceway.
GT racing has been a long-time fixture as support to the Adelaide 500 through its various iterations. The category has always been a fan favourite and enjoys a rich history, whether it be racing into the night format, or the illustrious names to have won at the event, including Allan Simonsen, David Wall, Craig Baird, plus current competitors Tony Bates and Scott Taylor.
Category manager Ken Collier says that this is an exciting announcement for both fans and competitors.
“The Adelaide street circuit is one of the world’s most famous street tracks. Its heritage is based on international competition, and the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS suits this perfectly,” said Collier.
“GT racing is no stranger to the venue. We’ve seen some classic races there over the years, and I expect the same will be showcased this year.
“Adding this as the final event of the 2022 calendar is fantastic. This is a high-profile category featuring on the return of one of the world’s most popular motorsport festivals.”
The 2022 Adelaide 500 will be held on December 1-4.
