Brenton and Stephen Grove climbed to seventh in the GT Cup Medal Race after being forced to start from the back of the grid at Paul Ricard for the FIA Motorsport Games.
Driving a similar Porsche 911 GT3 R II to the one entered earlier this year in Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, the Grove father-son team split the qualifying duties as Stephen placed seventh and Brenton 11th.
In Qualifying Race 1, Brenton started and finished 10th as disaster struck in the second event when an opening lap collision forced the Team Australia Porsche into retirement leading to the pairing starting the final from the back.
In what was a great performance by the pairing, Team Australia finished seventh as Stephen summarised the race.
“It’s always tough starting at the back after the issue we had in race two with Brenton getting taken out,” he said.
“We just had to let everyone settle – it’s pretty crazy back there. So once it had all settled, we were able to push on, get our tyre pressures right and start making some places back. So overall the result was very good.”
Although disappointed not to replicate their Bronze medal from three years ago, Brenton was pleased with the performance in the final considering the setback in Qualifying Race 2.
“We’ve had quite a bit of bad luck this weekend, so it was quite good to just have a solid (main) race and chip away,” Brenton said.
“P7 is probably not what we came for, but it would be hard to beat the guys at the front, the Mercedes are very, very fast this weekend.”
