Marcos Flack makes perfect Mount Panorama debut with Sonic

Marcos Flack has made a faultless racing debut at Mount Panorama, driving his Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge car in the opening round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS.

The Sonic Motor Racing Services team elected to enter 16-year-old Flack in the Bathurst event to gain the young star more experience in the Porsches, having spent the first few years of his circuit racing career competing in international open wheel competition.

At the opening round of Porsche Sprint Challenge, Flack took a stunning pole position, and to harness his raw speed, used the Mount Panorama event to get more laps in the Porsche, plus get comfortable around the revered Bathurst circuit.

Flack was faultless in his Bathurst debut, claiming victory in the GT3 Trophy class, and even racing against some of the outright GT3 competitors.

In qualifying, he took seventh outright against the Amateur drivers and 12th in the second session against a mix of Professionals and Amateurs.

In Saturday’s first race, Flack finished ninth before Sunday’s final hour-long race, coming home 10th.

The next race event for Flack and the Sonic team’s Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge will be at Symmons Plains Raceway in May, supporting the Repco Supercars Championship.

“I feel like we went really well and absolutely loved the track,” said Flack.

“It was everything I hoped it was and maybe even a bit more.

“The car was faultless all weekend and great to drive. The experience I’ve gained from this weekend will set me up for the rest of the year.

“I feel I’m in a good place (for the November race at Bathurst), but as much as it was about gaining experience, I enjoyed myself this weekend and even managed to beat some GT3 cars, which you can’t not like.

“Nothing substitutes seat time in these cars and I’m feeling more comfortable. Again, I haven’t been to Symmons Plains, but I might jump on the simulator to get an idea, though nothing is a substitute for actually driving there.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the Porsche for the second round.”
