McLaren release 720S GT3 Evo

McLaren has joined many of its fellow GT3 manufacturers in releasing an Evo model of its contending model, in this case the 720S.

The major improvement compared to its previous model is better aerodynamics and serviceability with testing due to occur in France next month.

“We’ve maintained a close relationship with our customer racing teams and have incorporated many of their recommendations into the new EVO package, improving consistency of performance and serviceability, which will ensure that the McLaren 720S will continue to set the pace in GT3 racing for many more years to come,” said Ian Morgan, Director of Motorsport, McLaren Automotive.

The Evo package includes a new front air-dam and splitter aimed to produce increased downforce to assist in shifting the aero balance of the 720S, while a gurney flap position on the bonnet aids cooling and repositioned lighting ensures the McLaren is more visible during night events.

To equal out the increased front downforce, a taller gurney flap at the rear has been installed.

Serviceability is improved by the addition of quick-release fastenings on the nose ensure repairs can be made effectively as rear-wing adjustment has been simplified.

Ohlins supply TTX40 four-way adjustable shock absorbers all round, which is set to enhance the spread of tyre options as are the upper front wishbones.

The rear suspension also features revised suspension geometry, which again aids in making broader set-up changes.

Uprights at the front are designed to enact fast changes of not just this component, but the brake caliper as well as a track rod clevis will ensure the 720S GT3 Evo can withstand wheel-to-wheel contact.

The 720S GT3 Evo is available to order now, existing owners can purchase a full update kit with the option to use existing hub units or with the complete upright assemblies.
