Tony Bates aiming to finish 2022 season in style

Teaming up with factory Audi Sport ace Kelvin van der Linde will aid in Tony Bates ending his Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS season on a high.

Driving the C-Tech Laser Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, Bates has regularly paired up with David Reynolds this year leading to strong results and multiple podiums. Returning to Adelaide is a confidence boost for Bates as he holds a distinguished record at the street circuit and enjoys the returning venue.

“I love Adelaide – it’s delivered some of the best results of my racing career and it’s great to have it back on the calendar,” Bates said.

“It’s a track that really suits my driving style. You have to be aggressive over the kerbs, and you also have to be prepared to take calculated risks.”

Van der Linde is a previous polesitter in Adelaide back in 2017, but holds an enviable resume globally for Audi Sport including a Nurburgring 24 Hour win, two ADAC GT Masters titles and top three overall finishes in DTM.

“Kelvin is one of the fastest GT drivers in the world, so he will be a huge asset to the team,” he said.

“He’s professional and a great guy off the track, so I’m looking forward to working with him.”

A recent test day at Sydney Motorsport Park has further enhanced Bates’ desire for a strong result in Adelaide.

“It’s no secret we’ve had some tough results in the GT Championship this year, but last week’s test went really well – the car was fantastic and I felt very comfortable,” Bates said.

“It’s really boosted my enthusiasm and I just can’t wait to get out on track and finish the season with a great result.”

Three 40-minute races will be held in Adelaide for the final round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS.
